I invited mature women to send me a purposely imperfect photo of themselves and tell me what they loved about their imperfections. Ronna Russell, 48, accepted my invitation and sent in this photo. This is what she had to say, not just about aging gracefully — but aging triumphantly.
I love this picture of myself. I have always had a resting “mad” face, but really I am just relaxing in the sun. The shadow on the wall amplifies my big nose and the crease between my brows is here to stay. Also, I am getting a chicken neck.
I have never looked better.
The reason I look better to myself now is because I recognize the woman in the picture. I know who she is and I like her a lot. I am happy for the first time; it shows in the way I am able to love and let myself be loved. It took desperate misery to be able to change my circumstances. The better I get at honoring my own feelings and needs and allowing pleasure in my life, the more powerful I am.
This is also the face of a woman who has learned to orgasm in almost any position.
