I learned about New York-based boudoir photographer Lori Berkowitz from her client, sex blogger and coach Pamela Madsen. When I visited her web site, I was blown away by Lori’s lush, sensual portfolio and asked her if I could feature pictures from a shoot she did with a mature woman. She graciously consented, and talks here about her her experience photographing 52-year-old Carolyn.
I love photographing women of a certain age. During boudoir sessions I often feel like my camera is having an intimate conversation with my subject’s body. We’re deep in her essence, and a mature woman always has an interesting story to tell my camera. A woman over 50 has an intimacy and generosity in her body that I often don’t see in younger women. There’s a sense of “fuck it!” and “why not?” that turns me on creatively and inspires our shoots.
I recently had this experience with Carolyn, age 52. Here are some of my favorite shots.
Her green lingerie set and pearls are images that show show a conversation with open-hearted vulnerability. I love how her body lets go and stretches into her own pleasure. I see connection to her own beauty, deep self-love, and confidence. When I see that I am able to feel all of those emotions in my own body.
Lori Berkowitz‘s midtown Manhattan studio is wonderfully indulgent, with full-service hair and make-up and many personal touches. She’ll have champagne or sparkling water chilled for your arrival. When you walk in the door of her airy and welcoming space, be ready to have time stand still. Lori’s process is grounded in making each client feel comfortable and at ease so she can lead them on this adventure.
“The joy is being the catalyst for women to reconnect with the passion inside them. For me, that’s what art is.”
